We know, we know, Azure turned 8 in February, but 10 years ago at the Professional Developers Conference Microsoft announced the Community Technology preview of Azure. We definitely think that’s worth celebrating!

 

AZURE DATABASE FOR MARIA DB NOW AVAILABLE IN PUBLIC PREVIEW

Azure Database, the enterprise-ready, fully managed database service that uses the community edition of MariaDB, promises to:

DISASTER RECOVERY FOR AZURE DISK ENCRYPTION-ENABLED VIRTUAL MACHINES

In early October, Azure announced that Azure Site Recovery now supports disaster recovery for Azure Disk Encryption–enabled virtual machines. You can replicate virtual machines, enabled for encryption through the Azure Active Directory app, from one Azure region to another region.

 

AZURE SIGNALR SERVICE NOW AVAILABLE

Back in May the public preview of Azure SignalR Service was announced. Last week we were made aware that the fully managed service is now available. The service allows developers to focus on building real-time web experiences without worrying about capacity provisioning, scaling, or persistent connections.

MICROSOFT PROMISES TO PROTECT YOUR DATA WHILE IN USE

Azure Confidential Computing is now in public preview! Until now Microsoft have been able to provide security for Azure customer data while in transit and at rest, but the preview now means your data is also safe while in use – completing Microsoft’s aim of keeping data protected throughout its lifecycle.

AUTOMATIC BUILDS NOW AVAILABLE ON AWS CODEBUILD

Until now we were expected to kick off builds manually but now AWS CodeBuild, the fully managed continuous integration service, can be configured to accept a webhook that automatically triggers a build when you a push a code change. More news on the announcement can be found here.

 

AWS ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF NEW AMAZON EC2 HIGH MEMORY INSTANCES

AWS now boasts the largest memory sizes available in the cloud with the announcement of their Amazon EC2 High Memory instances, delivering 6TB, 9TB and 12TB of memory today with the promise of 18TB and 24TB instances in 2019.

AWS SAM FOR JENKINS ANNOUNCED

Developers rejoice! Deploying your AWS serverless functions from your existing Jenkins pipeline has never been easier with the AWS Serverless Application Model (SAM) plugin, announced last month. The new plugin covers all CI/CD use cases and includes features such as:

  • Custom build step
  • Deploy SAM projects to AWS
  • Template tags support
  • Configurable deployment role
